As a mother of two who also works part-time outside of the home, I was looking for something more — something that both I and my children could be proud of. I knew that I not only wanted a career, but one that made a difference in the world. After a lot of soul searching, I knew that the career and life change that I was looking for could be found in a career in criminal justice. But where should I begin?
I started to look online at the various criminal justice degrees that were available. I knew that going to a classroom five nights a week was not going to fit into me and my kids’ busy schedule. I was also aware that it could take up to two years to finish my degree, but by doing it all online, I could easily complete the assignments and still spend time with my kids and nothing would have to suffer.
To my amazement, there are over 100 different degrees in criminal justice that can all be done online. I was so happy to see that I had that many choices in degrees and that there were dozens of colleges offering them at various times during the year. It took me a while, but I slowly completed all of the courses and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. I am now looking in to furthering my education and going for my Bachelor’s Degree in Juvenile Justice.
I know that going back to school and getting a degree may seem like an insurmountable task in the beginning, but you can get an online degree in the Criminal Justice field without having to sacrifice your time or your money. I was able to get a loan through a government program and was able to complete the program in my own time and on my own schedule with very little disruption to my family.
By furthering my education through this online degree program, not only was I able to set up a successful future for myself, but was also setting a great example for my children as well and showing them that they can do anything if they set their minds to it.
