Required Courses for a Christian Theology Degree
There is no one-size-fits-all program description for a theology degree, particularly since there are many different denominations and unique traditions from which to choose. There are literally dozens of options to choose from, so you’ll want to do your research before choosing a particular degree.
For a degree in Christian Theology, you’ll probably be required to take a separate course for each book in the Old Testament and the New Testament. If you want to use your degree to lead a spiritual community, your responsibility will be to provide an interpretation of the Bible that is compatible to your church’s views.
Depending on the program requirements, you may earn a bachelor’s degree in four or five years. A master’s degree usually takes an additional two to four years, depending on the number of credits you take each semester. Because doctoral candidates are required to take courses as well as write and defend a dissertation, it could take an additional five to seven years—on average—to complete the terminal degree.
